How to Start Woodworking on a Budget
Start with one small project, list the operations it requires and buy only the tools you expect to reuse. Borrow, rent or pay for occasional specialty work; use pre-sized lumber; and delay stationary machines until repeated projects justify them.

That sequence creates three problems.

Do not select a method only because it is cheap. It must be appropriate for the material, accuracy, space and skill level involved.

Ownership is only one form of access.
Buy
Buying usually makes sense when an item is inexpensive relative to repeated rental, used across several projects and easy to store safely.

Borrow

What might fit in the reusable-tool allocation?
One possible path is a complete drill/driver kit, corded circular saw, appropriate blade and bits, tape measure, square, straightedge and several clamps. Another path may use a hand saw and put more money into instruction, materials or a better work surface.
Do not mix the most expensive version of every category and expect it to fit. A higher-cost cordless platform must be balanced by lower spending elsewhere—or a larger budget.
