Review Methodology

Research is not the same as hands-on testing. Our pages state which kind of evaluation supports a conclusion.

Research-based evaluation

When we have not physically tested a product, we may evaluate its documented specifications, instructions, included components, terms, source, price and fit for a defined beginner use case. The page will not describe that work as a hands-on review.

Hands-on reviews

If hands-on testing is conducted in the future, the review should identify the product, test conditions, duration, comparison basis, limitations and whether the item was purchased, supplied or loaned.

Woodworking plans

Plans are checked across three connected layers: drawings, cut list and assembly sequence. Materials, tools, hardware, dimensions, limitations, revisions and publisher transparency are also evaluated. A polished rendering does not prove buildability.

Affiliate offers

Offer availability does not guarantee coverage or recommendation. We consider reputation, provenance, documentation quality, suitability for beginners, sales claims, refund terms and whether the resource creates value beyond marketing.

What ratings would mean

We do not publish decorative scores without a defined rubric and adequate evidence. If ratings are introduced, the criteria and weighting will be disclosed.
